Legislative Liaison: Louise Cabansay

Bio: Hello everyone! My name is Louise Cabansay. I am a 3rd year Biochemistry Major, minoring in computer science. I grew up in a small town in the East Bay called Brentwood. Throughout this year I hope to build the foundation for an institutionalized UCSC lobby corp that allows students to voice their opinions and concerns to their elected officials on a local, statewide, and national level. My goal is to make lobby corp not only a space where we meet with legislators, but where we also organize and empower the student voice through dialogue, town halls, and voter registration drives. Job Duties: The Legislative Liasion works as an intern for the SUA External Vice Chair and the External Office in order to coordinate actions on and off the campus with legislative officials. Projects include the setup lobby visits for the Student Union Assembly to address student concerns. Researching local, state and federal legislation and how it affects the student body. Working with UCSA as the legislative aid to the organization on behalf of UC Santa Cruz. Helping the External Vice Chair carry out campaigns and budget for the External Office from year to year. Debriefing and checking in with legislators and officers about the state of the campus. Helping to establish and maintain the lobby Corps by recruiting students to join in on lobbying opportunities.

Communications Director: Brooklynn Ackerman 

Bio: My name is Brooklynn Ackerman. I am a second year, Politics and possibly Legal Studies double major. I am from LA county, but currently reside in Oakes College. I am so excited to be further involved with SUA this year as an intern. I will publicize the EVC office and its' events to the best of my ability and hope to encourage more students to get involved on campus.

Job Duties: The Director of Communications will work closely with the External Vice Chair to publicize external affair’s events throughout the city of Santa Cruz, state of California, and The United States. This includes, Non-Profit organizations, Local Council Members, the UC Student Association and US Student Association and their respective campaigns. The Director of Communications will work on several social media platforms as well as coordinating with news sources who inquire about external affair’s events and projects. Responsible for attending SUA meetings and some UCSA and USSA conferences. Sets the communications agenda with assistance by the External Vice Chair. Report to the External Vice Chair on regular basis, or as the EVC deems necessary.

SUA Director of Local Affairs: Max Perrey 

Bio:

Job Duties: The Local Affairs Director will work closely with the External Vice Chair to build relationships on the local level for UC Santa Cruz. This includes, Non-Profit organizations, Local Unions, Local Organizing Bodies, Local Council Members and City Hall, Faith Organizers, Community Organizers, etc. The Local Affairs Director will work on creating a good relationship with city council and city hall, to see how lives of students living off campus can get better. Responsible for attending meetings and represent UC Santa Cruz to our local decision makers. Sets the Local Affairs Agenda with assistance by the External Vice Chair. Report to the External Vice Chair on a regular basis, or as the EVC deems necessary.

Vote Coordinator: Aron Garst 

Bio:I work mainly with different media organizations on campus within Student Media but when the opportunity came up to help increase voter turnout I jumped at the chance. As a third year, Politics major and Film & Digital Media minor I hope to push people to get informed and active with their ability to vote and influence government policy throughout the year

Job Duties: The Vote Coordinator will work closely with the EVC to create a yearly plan to prepare for the Vote 2013 Campaign Season. Will help develop a backwards plan, strategy chart, and an overall goal to increase voter turnout at UC Santa Cruz by the next general election. The Vote Coordinator is responsible for any registration drives the EVC will put on, including but not limited to, assisting with outreach, supervising volunteers, designing and implementing a successful plan to increase Voter Registration. Will work closely with USSA and UCSA campaign staff. Report to the External Vice Chair and the COD on a regular basis, or as the EVC deems necessary.

National Affairs Director: Audrey Litvak 

Bio: Hi, my name is Audrey. I am a 4th year Philosophy major originally from Los Angeles, CA. I come into the National Affairs Director Position with a strong interest in public policy and legislation.  Throughout this year, I hope to start a dialogue with students about how they can be empowered to tackle the problem of student debt and loan interest rates.  I would love to see a strong force of students interested in lobbying and voicing their opinions that the legislators will hear.  Please feel free to reach out to me about getting involved. 

Job Duties: The National Affairs Director works closely with the External Vice Chair to design and execute USSA National Student Campaigns at UC Santa Cruz. The NAD will be working directly to supervise all aspects of the National Campaign, including but not limited to, Actions, lobbying, and legislative campaigns. Works closely with the USSA Board of Directors as the Liaison between the Office of the External Affairs and USSA. The NAD also keeps a close relationship with our Congressmen district office, and directs all Lobby efforts with support by the Legislative Liaison. Responsible for all aspects of the National Agenda for the office of External Affairs. Report to the External Vice Chair on a regular basis, or as the EVC deems necessary.
