About Yourself:

Hi!

My name is Lauren Woo and I am a second year Cognitive Science and Politics double major. Throughout my first year here at UC Santa Cruz, I have been highly involved in student government on campus, as well as working as a Programs Assistant at Cowell College to put on events, and as a campus tour guide. After working as the Chief of Staff for the SUA Office of Academic Affairs, I knew I had a passion for improving students’ academic lives, through hearing their concerns and pushing for change. Last year, I helped the office secure funding to provide all students free testing materials for the 2018-2019, as well as create a framework to lessen the costs of textbooks.

Everyday I strive to work hard and improve myself through forward movement in all aspects of my life. If y’all have any questions about student government, Cowell College, or UCSC in general, don’t be afraid to come up and ask!

Past Involvement:

Chief of Staff to the Student Union Assembly Office of Academic Affairs, Cowell representative on SUA, Cowell representative to the Student Organization Funding Advisory Committee, Chair of Student Academic Senate, Undergraduate Representative on the Committee on Educational Policy, Cowell Senator, Cowell Programs Assistant, Student Life and University Guide, and Model United Nations delegate and Teaching Assistant.

Office Initiatives:

This year I have three main initiatives I’m focusing on; reducing textbook costs, securing a DRC accommodated testing space, and institutionalizing the Free Testing Materials initiative that began last year.

Fun Facts about yourself:

I can run a 5k in 19 minutes

I lived in France (but if you ask me to speak French, I’ll say I can’t)

I can bench more than you can

Please feel free to email me if you would like to share any experiences or concerns; I look forward to a great year!

Thank you,

Lauren Woo
