Prism: Student Coalition for Gender, Sex, and Sexuality

Prism's 2017-2018 SUA Representative is Max Lyon (smlyon@ucsc.edu)

Max Lyon

I am Max Lyon and go by they/them/theirs pronouns. I am first year planning on double majoring in AGPM and Literature with a focus in creative writing. I want most of my content to be LGBTQA+ related with a focus on educating people. My goals are to educate on LGBTQA+ topics to create a better understanding of the community and lead to improvements that protect LGBTQA+ people. I am also part of Theta Pi Sigma (TPS), the first gender-neutral Greek organization that was founded here at UCSC. I have a 7 year old cat named Ultra that anyone is welcome to pet!

Prism is Co-Chaired by TBA.

Prism, the Student Coalition for Gender, Sex and Sexuality, is a student-run organization aiming to build community and organize to tackle issues affecting our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Queer communities. We strive to be representative of and inclusive of the many Queer experiences and identities that contribute to the richness and vibrancy of our community.

We meet weekly in the Cantú Queer Center and also have events throughout the school year, both club-related and social. We host Prism socials throughout the year and campaigns that reach all UCSC students. Our weekly meetings are a gathering time for our community to grow and enjoy the company of friends and community members, as well as participate actively in their community. Our campaigns allow us to tackle the issues that affect our communities (i.e. access to all-gender bathrooms, access to LGBT housing on campus, outreaching to high school Gay-Straight Alliances, violence toward our community and within our community, and many more).

Come join us, meet fellow Queer Slugs, make new, lasting friendships, and take ownership of your identity. We hope to see you at one of our weekly meetings!

Fall 2017 Report Back

Aside from taking notes on meetings and keeping my group up to date, I've been in contact with the Chancellor's Office and Ciel Bendetto with regards to making more gender neutral bathrooms. Max Lyon has been shadowing me to take over as SUA rep for Winter and Spring Quarters.
