Commissioner of Academic Affairs (CAA)

The CAA office envisions itself as a think tank of sorts that seeks to understand the workings of the Academic Senate in order to better advance and represent the student voice and student power.   The CAA is the official student representative to the Academic Senate, a body consisting of all tenured teachers on campus.  The Academic Senate sets ALL academic policies regarding graduation requirements, course and major approvals, individual major approvals, etc.

If you ever have one of the following PROBLEMS with Academic issues, the CAA office will work to represent and defend your case:

  • You can’t get into a class you need to graduate for your major

  • Your individual major is denied
A student-led course you proposed was rejected

  • A professor or TA makes any kind of sexual advance on you

  • A TA or professor attacks, disrespects, singles out or tokenizes any aspect of your identity

  • Seemingly rigid and arcane academic policies undeservedly screw you over in any way
